This is a smoothie that is close to impossible not to try out.

Things we should know about the “Influenza Season” also known as “flu” season. The timing of a flu is close to impossible to predict, it’s some what very unpredictable because the “flu” season varies in different parts of the country  and from season to season. The most common seasonal flu typically arrives between October and May. In parts of the world the common peaks of the flu season is around December and February.

image

It’s also very different to predict how/what the flu season will be like. The “FLU” season as mentioned before is very unpredictable in numerous ways. Flu season comes around every year, the flu spreads every year, but it’s very difficult to determine the timing, the severity and the duration of the season. Again, all these common factors varies from one year to another.

Some of the most common symptoms of the flu are:

People who have the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:
  • Fever* or feeling feverish/chills.
  • Cough.
  • Sore throat.
  • Runny or stuffy nose.
  • Muscle or body aches.
  • Headaches.
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.

“What should we do to protect ourselves from the flu season”

There are many different options we are given to protect ourselves from the flu. One of the most common recommended yearly by our doctors, pharmacist and health officials is the “flu vaccine” . The vaccination is for everyone from 6 months and older, this has to be the first and foremost important step in protecting ourselves against the flu. Health officials announce it every year that we should start getting vaccinated as soon as the flu vaccine becomes available. Normally, these vaccines are ready and available by Mid-October and the best part now about these “flu vaccines” is that they’re “FREE” at least where I live in Canada. Also, they’re no longer  just available at the doctor’s office, these vaccines are readily available to be taken at many pharmacies, community health centers and flu clinics.

There are many other preventive things we can do to stay healthy and protected this flu season:

  • get your flu shot early
  • wash your hands often
  • avoid touching your eyes and face
  • do not share personal items such as drinking cups
  • cover your cough or sneeze
  • do the fist bump instead of shaking hands

These are facts and information that is readily always available to use through our local health centers, doctors office, pharmacy and the internet. I have also read up on many different factors relating to the “flu season”, “Influenza”, prevention, and also participated in classroom sessions learning about the prevention and protection. I believe that the number one protection and prevention starts at home. 🙂

    Fruity Turmeric Smoothie

Fruity Turmeric Smoothie | Delicious Smoothie made with the goodness of Fresh Yellow & White Turmeric

    image

Falls finally arrived, with all the leaves on the trees changing colors. The sun still shining bright with a light breeze in the air. With all these changes our body needs to start changing with the seasons also. We need to equip our immune system to start fighting the nasty winter colds, flu’s and all other viruses.

Fruity Turmeric Smoothie is exactly one of those drinks that’s power packed with all the necessary nutrients, vitamins and super foods that help the immune system fight. This smoothie has a great mix of assorted fruits, white and yellow turmeric, yogurt, honey and orange juice to give it that exact immune boosting energy.

    image

Fresh Turmeric comes in two different varieties. First, is a very nice vibrant yellow/orange color which is also known as “lili haldi” in Gujarati. The second is a white turmeric also known as “amba haldi” in Gujarati which somewhat resembles ginger, but both of these turmeric are considered to be the world’s healthiest foods. These turmeric are used to help treat many chronic diseases and help relieve and cure the common cold. Turmeric is mostly found all over India and now it’s widely found in Indian, Chinese and some other Middle Eastern grocery stores, this particular root also known in other languages as:

AMBA HALDI is also known as Curcura Aromatica.
    In Hindi…………AmaHaldi or Amba Haldi
    In Marathi …….Ame Haldi
    In Malayalam…Mannayinai
    In Tamil………..Arukamleke
It is also called as Mango ginger.

    image

Yellow and white turmeric can also be used for cooking, making pickle (achar), healing sick stomach aches, help remove skin bruises due to burns and help reduce the common cold.

My mom has always been big on haldi (turmeric), as a child I remember soon as we got sick with the common sneezing or cough she would make us a huge bowl of warm haldi (turmeric) and ghee (butter) milk and with absolutely no choice had to finish it up! 🙂  I have to say this, which I’ve never mentioned but will do so today after all these years …..But the honest truth is that I never admitted to her that her haldiwala milk always did the trick and relieved and soothed the cold and helped with the nasty hacky cough. Now as a parent myself I use the same tricks on my kids.

    Kiwi Berry Banana Smoothie

Kiwi Berry Banana Smoothie | A Tropical Paradise Smoothie

    image

Kiwi Berry Banana Smoothie, a nice mix of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries blended together with ripe bananas and kiwis with the added touch of a spoon full of honey to create the perfect tropical paradise. This smoothie has also an added touch of Organic Vegan Protein Powder to help balance out our daily protein intake. All natural flavors of fruits and added touch of honey with a splash of tangerine lemonade is a guaranteed super satisfier for the healthy tummy. 🙂

    image

I love to travel, but unfortunately it’s not always possible. So, I say no worries and that’s when I decide to bring the Tropical Paradise to me in my very own back yard. There’s nothing better than the Tropical Paradise feeling. On a nice sunny hot summer day, turn the back yard into your very own paradise resort, turn up the music, put on your nice summer attire, bring out all the tropical fruits, invite some of your close friends and family members and prepare this super-duper delicious Kiwi Berry Banana Smoothie.

It’s not always about the tropical fruits, it’s the flavors and taste that bring out the true tropical desire in smoothies. This special smoothie Kiwi Berry Banana is not just delicious it’s super healthy. I’ve added in a special ingredient called Organic Vegan Protein Powder . Being a complete vegetarian I find that me and my family sometimes lack protein in our everyday food diet. So to substitute that missing protein I add a little bit of the Organic Vegan Protein Powder to our smoothies to balance things out. I’ve noticed that every protein powder has different effect on our bodies, so it’s always wise to read the label and always to start off with small portions of protein powder and alternate days. **This is just from my own personal experiences** 🙂

This once again is a super easy and quick smoothie to prepare early morning or for a great afternoon snack. Fresh or frozen fruits work perfect, I have used frozen berries, which I had originally bought fresh from our farmers market and froze them. Ripe spotty bananas and nice soft ripe kiwis. I’ve also added in a spoon full of honey to balance out the sweetness, cup full of Tropicana Lemonade with tangerine and the secret ingredient Organic Vegan Protein Powder.

    Spinach Kiwi fruit Smoothie

Spinach Kiwifruit Smoothie with Pomegranate Blueberry Juice | Nutritious and Healthy drink to start the day

    1438210737256

This has to be one of the best and refreshing smoothie that I’ve tried so far. Yes! Spinach Kiwifruit with an added touch of Pomegranate Blueberry Juice a completely nutritious way to start the early morning day or an afternoon snack.  Spinach Kiwifruit Smoothie with Pomegranate Blueberry Juice is a 4 ingredient smoothie made in minutes and packed with loads of vitamins and minerals.

    1438210950926

I’m one for using up any leftover fruits and vegetables. I hate throwing out or wasting them. A lot of time and effort is gone into growing and producing fruits & vegetables and to bring it home and not use it and throw it out….. no good! 🙁   I absolutely don’t agree with doing that, so that’s when the smoothie idea comes in to work. Smoothies can be created in many different versions, flavors and textures and they all can be made to your liking.

Spinach is one of those green leafs, if not taken care of properly they tend to go bad fast. I particularly like to use baby spinach or organic baby spinach these come pre-packed in plastic contains and actually have an expiry date or a good till date on them. “Didn’t realize that vegetables came with expiry dates” Oh well! I guess that all part of the packaging and branding world ! The best part of this spinach is that they have been pre-washed 3x, which means a lot of the bacterial germs and soil has been removed. I still wash it one more time before using it ….just to be on the safe side.

    1438211031507

Kiwi fruit is another unusual fruit, its outer look is brown and furry and the inside is a complete opposite bright greenish white with black tiny little seeds that are completely edible. They say that this fruit adds a dramatic flare to any fruit salad.

My first experience with kiwi wasn’t the most pleasant, I saw it and bought it and thought no need to wait. I cut the solid hard kiwi in half and took a huge bit into it ….and was completely disgusted. No really! it was extremely sour, the rough outer layer with impossible to chew and the seeds were annoying. That didn’t stop me …I did a little bit of research on the fruit and discovered that this is one those super foods that needs to be enjoyed as is because the benefits are phenomenal completely packed with “Vitamin C”.

Now, things are different I buy kiwi fruit, but the secret is in waiting till it ripens up. Let it sit out for a bit whether on the kitchen counter or in the fridge, it will start to soften up, but remember not to soft just to the point where it’s peel able and enjoyable. By ripening up the Kiwi fruits gets more sweeter and the rough hard taste instantly vanishes.

    1438210840452

Pre-blended juices are another excellent add in source of vitamin, I use Tropicana Pomegranate Blueberry blend juice in this smoothie. It’s readily available in all of our major grocery stores. The juice is 100% fruit and vegetable flavored with no add sugar and it’s a got a good source of  “Vitamin A & C” and potassium. The taste is great and when added to smoothies with other naturally flavored fruits and vegetables …it’s completely mind-blowing.

Well. this was part of my weekly morning smoothie update ….this week was a “start the day with a glass of freshly blended smoothie week” I had put the Indian Chai (tea) second and started off the early morning with a cold refreshing glass of delicious, super healthy and super fast smoothie. “Spinach Kiwifruit Smoothie with Pomegranate Blueberry Juice”

With anymore further due …lets check out this super simple and easy recipe. Be sure to try it out and let me know what you think. Share you valuable feedback, I’d love to hear from you. Also remember to share with your friends and family, subscribe to get emails on my regular updates. 🙂

    Mango Pineapple Smoothie

    Mango Pineapple Smoothie

    image

It’s summertime and like I say, there’s nothing more delicious than a nice fresh fruity smoothie to enjoy. The sun is shining and the temperature is soaring hot at 35 Celsius, sitting outside in my backyard patio, swinging  away on my grande swing enjoying this absolutely delicious soothing and refreshing cold glass of Mango Pineapple Smoothie. What more do you? Life is great ! 🙂

    image

I like to believe that during summertime we should take full advantage of all the nice fresh fruits that are available to us and in season. This refreshing “Mango Pineapple Smoothie” was made with fresh in season Indian Mangoes called “Badami”  also known as “Baiganpally Mango” these mangoes are grown in the southern states on India like Karnataka. These mangoes are large in size and when naturally ripened they’re absolutely sweet and tasty.

Pineapples also known as “ananas” is another fruit that originated from India also, but now is widely grown in South & Central America right to the West Indies. It’s considered a tropical fruit, that is grown year after year and is a drought-tolerant plant. Pineapples are widely grown during the months of March to June. The similarity of the two fruits used in this smoothie is that their both around widely during the months of March to June.

    image

The best part of this revitalizing and refreshing smoothie is that it only takes three ingredients. Mangoes, Pineapples and lots of ice or cold water all blended into smooth smoothie and ready in seconds.  Really ! that’s it  no mess, no hard work and you have a great delicious smoothie ready to enjoy.

Fresh fruits are always the best, but no worries if that’s not available then us frozen works the same and taste the same. For this particular recipe I also cheated I had the fresh sweet over ripen Badami Mangoes, but ran out of the pineapple, so I used frozen Pineapple Chucks (sorry) 🙂
